Since February is National Children’s Dental Health Month I have made a concerted effort to do my part here in Muncie by spending some time in a couple of local preschools. I was scheduled to go to Selma United Methodist Church to speak with the preschool classes today, but due to weather we will see them in a few weeks. You can find them at the following link: http://www.selmaumc.org/little-learners
Next week I will be making my annual appearance at Center Chapel Preschool and interacting with those students. You can find more information on them at the following link: http://www.centerchapelpreschool.com/CCPS/Welcome.html
The program usually consists of a preschool oriented DVD dealing with good Dental health practices such as proper diet, toothbrushing, and introduction to a Dental office visit. We follow that with a storybook time reinforcing the DVD and then do a screening exam for the students by visual means only. This is very non-invasive and well received by the students since several of them will have already had a professional visit. If anyone has an obvious need we inform the parents so they can take appropriate steps to address the need. If they would like us to see them as a patient we will be happy to make arrangements to do that. I want to mention that I do not limit my practice to Pediatric Dentistry alone, but as a true Family practice I routinely treat children as early as age 2.
